Safe Beginnings Toolkits Overview
Safe Beginnings is a comprehensive education and outreach toolkit focused on providing knowledge and resources to parents of children ages 0-5, to reduce unintentional childhood injuries. The Safe Beginnings Toolkit includes a series of parent modules, developed collaboratively by the Child Abuse Prevention Council of Sacramento and the Sierra-Sacramento Region Innovative Partnership Program funded, in part, by California Department of Public Health Kid’s Plates Program and the Office of Child Abuse Prevention. The parent modules include the following safety areas:
- Burn Prevention, which targets the reduction of accidental burn injuries in the home;
- Fall Prevention, which aims to reduce child falls from multi-story buildings targeting tenants, owners, and landlords;
- Poison Prevention, which targets the reduction of accidental ingestion of opioids and other household products;
- Safe Sleep Baby, focusing on the reduction of infant sleep-related deaths;
- Unsafe In-Home Products, which comprehensively focuses on the prevention of injuries from various household products; and
- Water Safety, which focuses on drowning prevention.
Each Toolkit includes information regarding injury prevalence, educational resources, prevention tips, and steps to follow if a child is injured. For more information, questions, and/or to provide feedback, please reach out to Jasmine Brosnan at jbrosnan@thecapcenter.org.
